Overjoyed, she embraces him, relieved to see him alive. Sonya orders the Gladers on their feet from their hiding places behind abandoned cars, but freezes when she sees Aris traveling with the group. The two girls from Group B sneak up on the ragtag group of Gladers, Brenda, and Jorge with Harriet holding them at gunpoint. The group, including Aris, but without Tim, escapes the facility, as Janson orders his WCKD troops to track them down, where they find themselves in the deserted outside world – the Scorch. The next day, after meeting inside the air vents, Aris and Thomas swiped one of the guards keycard and enter the harvesting room, It is revealed that WCKD's leader, Ava Paige, is still alive and that Janson is working for WCKD, as they discuss the experiment on the Immunes and that Janson has yet to find the Right Arm, a resistance group located at the mountains. In the Scorch Trials film, Aris, who was the first maze survivor to end up in the WCKD facility, notices that Thomas claimed that something unusual was happening in the facility just as he did so they both planned to investigate what was through the door that was guarded.
